Buda is an integral part of Hays Consolidated Independent School District (Hays CISD), covering over 221 square miles. With 26 campuses and a commitment to exceptional education, Hays CISD provides modern schools, dynamic instruction, and diverse extracurricular programs. Residents benefit from specialized career programs and a strong focus on STEM in elementary schools. Hays CISD, with a rich history of community support, plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life in Hays County, preparing students for success.
Three comprehensive high schools, six middle schools (6-8 grade), 15 elementary schools, an alternative high school of choice and a disciplinary center comprise the district’s campuses, which have tripled in number since 2000. The district also features a state-of-the-art Performing Arts Center.

In 2023, Carpenter Hill Elementary School had a STAAR performance rate for all grades and all subjects that “Meets Grade Level or Above” at 73% compared to 49% in the State and 52% in the district.
In 2023, Buda Elementary School has an annual growth rate of 65% for all grades in the subject of ELA/ Reading compared to 63% growth statewide.
Career & Technical Education
The Career & Technical Education (CTE) Department at Hays Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) in Texas provides students with a comprehensive range of programs and courses to prepare them for success in their future careers. With a focus on equipping students with industry-specific skills and knowledge, the CTE Department offers various pathways in areas such as agriculture, business, healthcare, technology, and trades. Through hands-on learning experiences, internships, and partnerships with local businesses, students gain practical experience and develop essential skills in critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication. By offering certifications, licenses, and college credits, the CTE Department enables students to graduate with a competitive edge in the workforce or pursue further education with a clear direction. Many of these courses are articulated with Austin Community College which means students can earn college credit while in high school at no cost to the student.
