Retail & Marketing Coordinator

Department:          EDC

FLSA Status:            Non-Exempt

JOB SUMMARY

The Retail & Marketing Coordinator, under the direction of the Executive Director, is responsible for attracting and retaining retailers to the City of Buda and developing and implementing effective public relations and marketing programs to support and stimulate economic development in the City of Buda and its ETJ.  The retail component of this position is accomplished by overseeing retail business attraction and retentions efforts, retail opportunity identification and retail growth initiatives within the City of Buda and its ETJ, which will include collecting and analyzing data and connection resources, retailers and developers to support the growth of the local retail sector. The marketing component of this position is accomplished by developing and implementing annual public relations and marketing plans, coordination with internal staff, development of promotional materials, marketing brochures, newsletters, advertising, press releases, and social media communications.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Develops and implements short and long-term retail recruitment programs and initiatives.
  • Maintains retail and commercial property database online and printed format and helps identify suitable properties for prospects, retailers, and developers.
  • Maintains database of demographic and other community information that is important to prospects, retailers, and developers and provides timely and accurate information.
  • Serves as the point of contact between retail attraction prospects & clients and the EDC.
  • Maintain retailer and developer database of over 100+ contacts at any given time.
  • Coordinate site tours and retail attraction meeting, events, and recruitment activities.
  • Participates in and coordinates marketing and public relation activities, which may include: developing marketing materials, identifying and evaluating potential marketing opportunities, preparing and designing graphics, printed materials, brochures, videos, and social media campaigns.
  • Researches and writes content for website, newsletter, digital media, press releases, speeches, and public presentations.
  • Develops and maintains positive working relationships with vendors, customers, retailers, developers, real estate brokers, other agencies, EDC and City staff.
  • May represent the EDC at meetings, events, and conferences.
  • Assist in the development of retail and marketing budget and budget monitoring.
  • Attends public meetings and assists other economic development staff as appropriate.
  • Provides support to EDC Staff and Board of Directors, including preparation of agendas and minutes, and routinely attends evening meetings.
  • Prepares reports and makes presentations at public and community meetings regarding the Buda EDC activities including retail recruitment
  • Conducts research for documents, compiles data for computer entry, and/or enters or oversees data entry.
  • Provides information and knowledge regarding economic development programs and grants to retailers and developers.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.  

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Economic Development or related field or relevant experience in economic development or marketing field.

Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen, criminal background check.

Special Qualifications:

Valid State of Texas driver's license desired.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be proficient in marketing, economic development and the use of technology.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Product Suite.
  • Proficient in the use of Adobe Creative Suite, digital media devices and software, social media, and oral and written communications.
  • Ability to managing and handling sensitive and confidential information.
  • Skill in organizing, prioritizing, tracking and managing multiple assignments and tasks.
  • Ability to travel or work non-conventional hours approximately 20% of their year.
  • Knowledge of basic economic development principles and practices and real estate leasing and development practices.
  • Knowledge and skilled in developing and implementing retail attraction strategies.
  • Skilled in providing customer service, gathering and analyzing information, making recommendations, preparing clear and concise reports, and explaining rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Skill in the use small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
  • Skill in using computers for data entry.
  • Skill in using computers for word processing and/or accounting purposes.
  • Ability to read papers, periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, thesauruses, and encyclopedias.
  • Ability to write reports, prepare business letters, expositions, and summaries with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech.
  • Ability to organize and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to cordially communicate with and develop effective working relationship with retailers, developers, prospects, the public, and colleagues.
  • Ability to remain flexible and open to new ideas and encourages others to value change.
  • Ability to identify ways to incorporate new practices into existing framework.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and stress; meet deadlines; plan, organize and prioritize multiple work assignments.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is sedentary and requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects and the following physical abilities: fingering, hearing, mental acuity, speaking, talking, visual acuity, and walking.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is typically performed in a dynamic environment that requires sensitivity to changing goals, priorities, and needs.

 

SALARY & BENEFITS

$40,000 - $54,000 range depending on experience and qualifications.

City of Buda employee benefits including Vacation, Sick, and Comp Time leave, retirement, health, dental, and vision insurance.
