Two Decades in the Making: The History of Buda EDC
Throughout its history, Buda EDC has been dedicated to promoting economic growth and development in Buda, Texas. From its humble beginnings in a break room to its current status as an influential economic development organization, Buda EDC has played a vital role in shaping the economic landscape of the city.
In May 2001, a successful election granted Buda EDC the ability to use local sales tax funds for economic development purposes, and the first Board of Directors for Buda EDC was formed in September 2001. At the time, Buda’s population was about 3,500.
Those early days started with a plastic table as a desk in the City Hall breakroom. Eventually, Buda EDC moved into the Old Buda Lumberyard building. Now, Buda EDC is located in the beautiful new City Hall building.
Buda has grown exponentially over those couple of decades, with a 5x population increase. To reflect such growth, Buda EDC has flourished as well. Now, there’s a staff of six full-time employees. Buda EDC has incentivized hundreds of businesses, both big and small, and has invested millions of dollars in incentives.
